Mt. Rushmore Road Reconstruction Project Update

Project #NH 0016(79)68, PCN 027C

Pennington County

RAPID CITY, SD – Thursday, April 14 – Pavement removal is complete from Kansas City Street to Clark Street and is on hold until utility work catches up.  Water and Sewer work in the vicinity of Quincy Street is complete.  Storm Sewer installation has begun just south of the Kansas City Street intersection and will progress south.  The Quincy Street intersection is anticipated to remain closed for the remainder of this week and will open again early next week.  Columbus Street is currently open, but is anticipated to close the middle of next week as storm sewer installation moves south.

Business access on Mt. Rushmore Road will remain open at all times. A “Temporary Pedestrian Access Route” will be maintained on the east side of Mt. Rushmore Road through the first phase of construction. Left-hand turns across traffic are discouraged to allow for continued flow of traffic.

Motorists are asked to slow down through the work zone and be prepared for: suddenly slowing, merging and stopped traffic, minor delays, loose gravel, uneven surfaces and bumps, as well as construction workers and equipment adjacent to the roadway.
