Mt. Rushmore Road Project to Begin March 28

RAPID CITY, S.D. March 21, 2016 – Reede Construction Inc. will begin construction on the first phase of the Mount Rushmore Road reconstruction project Monday, March 28, 2016.

Motorists are advised the southbound lanes from Saint James Street to Kansas City Street will be closed, on-street parking will be removed, and two-way traffic will be placed in the northbound lanes.

Construction will progress along this stretch of road from north to south, beginning at Kansas City Street, and will run through June 2016. Work being done during this time includes:

  • Traffic Control
  • Asphalt and concrete removal in southbound lanes
  • Southbound road surface removal
  • Sanitary sewer, water, and storm sewer construction
  • Grading and graveling operation
  • Concrete placement for two southbound lanes along with curb and gutter
  • Sidewalks and driveways

Business access on Mount Rushmore Road will remain open at all times. A “Temporary Pedestrian Access Route” will be maintained on the east side of Mt. Rushmore Road through this first phase of construction. Left-hand turns across northbound lanes are discouraged to allow for continued flow of traffic.

The public may contact the public information specialist for more information on this project.
