Mt. Rushmore Road Reconstruction Project Update
Project #NH 0016(79)68, PCN 027C
Pennington County

RAPID CITY, SD – Thursday, May 26 – Saint James Street, from Mount Rushmore Road to Ninth Street, will continue to be closed today to through traffic for removal of two trees within the construction limits. On street parking will be allowed within that block west of the construction limits.

Beginning next Tuesday the Columbus Street intersection will be closed for paving.

Water, sanitary sewer, and storm sewer installation continues along Mt. Rushmore Road between Columbus Street and Fulton Street. Roadway surfacing continues between Kansas City Street and Columbus Street.

The South Street intersection at Mount Rushmore Road and the Fulton Street intersection at Mount Rushmore Road will each be closed intermittently as water and sewer lines are installed. Be advised that the South Street and Fulton Street intersections may be closed at the same time.

Business access on Mt. Rushmore Road will remain open at all times. A “Temporary Pedestrian Access Route” will be maintained on the east side of Mt. Rushmore Road through the first phase of construction. Left-hand turns across traffic are discouraged to allow for continued flow of traffic.

Motorists are asked to slow down through the work zone and be prepared for: suddenly slowing, merging and stopped traffic, minor delays, loose gravel, uneven surfaces and bumps, as well as construction workers and equipment adjacent to the roadway.
