Mt. Rushmore Road Reconstruction Project Update
RAPID CITY, SD – Thursday, December 29, 2016

Project #NH 0016(79)68, PCN 027C – Work on the project, and weekly public meetings, are suspended until next spring. Work on the large block retaining wall between South Street and Clark Street and the concrete retaining walls between Columbus Street and Fairview Street is anticipated to start again in March, 2017. Pedestrian access between Clark Street and South Street on the east side of Mt. Rushmore Road will remain closed until sidewalk and handrail installation is completed in the spring of 2017. Temporary Pedestrian Access Routes will be maintained at Fairview Street and South Street.

The project is approximately 95% complete.

Project #NH 0016(84)67, PCN 049F – Construction continues from Saint Francis Street through the Saint Patrick Street intersection, with work on temporary surfacing, painting, and signals this week.

The Saint Patrick Street intersection is anticipated to be opened this Saturday, December 31. The sidewalks on the east side of Mt Rushmore Road, from Saint Francis Street to Saint Patrick Street, and on the south side of Saint Patrick Street from the Walgreens driveway to Mt Rushmore Road are anticipated to be opened next Tuesday, January 3. Work in Saint Anne Street is not yet scheduled to begin.

Weekly public meetings for this part of the Mt Rushmore Road Reconstruction project (from Saint James Street to Flormann Street) will be suspended until mid-February.
