Mt. Rushmore Road Reconstruction Projects to Begin March 6

RAPID CITY, S.D. – Beginning Monday, March 6, Complete Contracting, Inc. will start construction on the next phase of the Mount Rushmore Road reconstruction project from Saint James Street to Flormann Street, and Reede Construction, Inc. will resume construction on their part of the Mount Rushmore Road reconstruction project, from Kansas City Street to Saint James Street.

Motorists are advised the southbound lanes from Flormann Street to Saint James Street will be closed, on-street parking will be removed and two-way traffic will be placed in the northbound lanes. Business access on Mount Rushmore Road will remain open at all times. A “Temporary Pedestrian Access Route” will be maintained on the east side of Mount Rushmore Road through this phase of construction.

Motorists are also advised the southbound and northbound lanes from Saint James Street to Kansas City Street will be reduced to one lane in each direction. Pedestrian access between Clark and South streets on the east side of Mount Rushmore Road will remain closed until sidewalk and handrail installation is completed. Temporary Pedestrian Access Routes will be maintained at Fairview and South streets.

Work in the Flormann Street to Saint James Street project area will begin on the west side of Mount Rushmore Road on the south end of the project, tying water into Saint Anne and Saint Francis streets. The following week construction will begin at Saint James Street and progress from north to south through July 2017. Work includes setting traffic control; surfacing removal in the southbound lanes; sanitary sewer, water and storm sewer construction; grading and graveling operations; concrete placement for two southbound lanes, curb and gutter; sidewalks and driveways.

Work in the Saint James Street to Kansas City Street area includes medians, pavement markings, retaining walls and landscaping, with an anticipated completion date of May 2017.
