RAPID CITY, SD – Wednesday, Aug. 16 – The Saint Anne Street and Saint Francis Street intersections, on the east side of Mount Rushmore Road, are temporarily closed for paving of the northbound lanes of Mount Rushmore Road, from Flormann Street to Saint Francis Street. The Saint Anne and Saint Francis street intersections will re-open with temporary gravel surfaces over the concrete as soon as strength in the concrete is met, which is anticipated to be Aug. 18. Work on retaining walls, sidewalk, lighting, and landscape will follow.
Work is being done on retaining walls, sidewalk, and landscape on the west side of Mount Rushmore Road from Saint James Street to Saint Patrick Street. Saint Andrew Street and the alley between Franklin and Saint Charles streets are anticipated to be paved the week of Aug. 21, with work on curb and gutter and lighting to follow.
Surface removal is anticipated to be complete by Aug. 19, in the northbound lanes of Mount Rushmore Road from Saint Patrick Street to Saint James Street. Installation of sewer lines is anticipated to begin the week of Aug. 21 at Saint Patrick Street and move north. Installation of water lines is anticipated to begin around Aug. 30 at Saint James Street and move south. Installation of sanitary sewer is anticipated to begin around Sept. 5. During surface removal and installation of sewer and water lines, there will be intermittent closures of intersections on the east side of Mount Rushmore Road from Saint Cloud Street to Saint Andrew Street. Be advised that more than one street may be closed at the same time.
Business access on Mount Rushmore Road will remain open at all times. Left-hand turns across traffic are discouraged to allow for continued flow of traffic. Motorists are asked to slow down through the work zone and be prepared for: suddenly slowing, merging and stopped traffic, minor delays, loose gravel, uneven surfaces and bumps, as well as construction workers and equipment adjacent to the roadway.
A Temporary Pedestrian Access Route is being maintained on the west side of Mount Rushmore Road from Flormann Street to Saint Patrick Street, on the east side of Mount Rushmore Road from Saint Patrick Street to Saint Andrew Street, and on the west side of Mount Rushmore Road from Saint Andrew Street to Saint James Street.
