RAPID CITY, SD – Wednesday, Sept. 20 – Work on water line and storm sewer installation continues on Mount Rushmore Road. Water service connections are anticipated to be done up to Franklin Street by the end of this week. Water line installation will continue south and is anticipated to be through Saint Charles Street by the end of next week. Storm sewer installation is anticipated to be through Franklin Street by the end of next week. Surfacing work has begun at Saint James Street and will move south through Franklin Street. During work on water, sewer, and surfacing, there will be intermittent closures of intersections on the east side of Mount Rushmore Road from Saint Cloud Street to Saint Andrew Street. The pedestrian crossing to Wilson Elementary School is at Saint Charles Street.
Saint Anne Street, from Mount Rushmore Road to the east approximately 120-feet, and Saint Francis Street, from Mount Rushmore Road to the east approximately 100-feet, are anticipated to be paved next week. Work is being done on sidewalk, lighting, and landscape on the east side of Mount Rushmore Road, from Flormann Street to Saint Francis Street.
Work is being done on retaining walls, sidewalk, lighting, and landscape on the west side of Mount Rushmore Road from Saint James Street to Saint Patrick Street.
A Temporary Pedestrian Access Route is being maintained on the west side of Mount Rushmore Road from Flormann Street to Saint James Street.
Business access on Mount Rushmore Road will remain open at all times. Left-hand turns across traffic are discouraged to allow for continued flow of traffic. Motorists are asked to slow down through the work zone and be prepared for: suddenly slowing, merging and stopped traffic, minor delays, loose gravel, uneven surfaces and bumps, as well as construction workers and equipment adjacent to the roadway.
