RAPID CITY, SD – Wednesday, Oct. 4 – Work on water main and storm sewer installation is near completion on Mount Rushmore Road. Water main installation is anticipated to be through Saint Andrew Street by the beginning of next week, with tie-ins at Saint Charles and Saint Andrew streets anticipated next Wednesday. Storm sewer installation is complete up to Saint Charles Street and is anticipated to be through Saint Andrew Street by the end of next week. Paving is anticipated from Saint Cloud Street through Saint Charles Street mid-week next week. During work on water, sewer, and surfacing, there will be intermittent closures of intersections on the east side of Mount Rushmore Road from Saint Cloud Street to Saint Andrew Street.
The pedestrian crossing to Wilson Elementary School is currently at Franklin Street. On the day of paving Franklin and Saint Charles streets, which is anticipated next Wednesday, Oct. 11, the pedestrian crossing will be moved to Saint Cloud Street for school release. After the day of paving, the pedestrian crossing will remain at Franklin Street through the end of the project
Work is being done on asphalt portions of parking lots, colored concrete areas, medians, striping, landscape, and lighting on Mount Rushmore Road, from Flormann Street to Saint Andrew Street. Work is being done on sidewalk, lighting, and landscape on the west side of Mount Rushmore Road from Saint James Street to Saint Andrew Street.
A Temporary Pedestrian Access Route is being maintained on the west side of Mount Rushmore Road from Flormann Street to Saint James Street.
Business access on Mount Rushmore Road will remain open at all times. Left-hand turns across traffic are discouraged to allow for continued flow of traffic. Motorists are asked to slow down through the work zone and be prepared for: suddenly slowing, merging and stopped traffic, minor delays, loose gravel, uneven surfaces and bumps, as well as construction workers and equipment adjacent to the roadway.
